Anna Schellenberg

Bali has captured my heart completely over the years. Honestly, after photographing dozens of weddings across this incredible Indonesian paradise, I can tell you that the wedding locations Bali offers are absolutely unmatched anywhere in the world.

I’ve seen couples from every corner of the globe choose this magical island for their special day. And you know what? Every single one tells me the same thing afterward. They can’t believe how perfect everything turned out.

The island gives you everything. Cascading waterfalls hidden in emerald jungles. Pristine beaches where turquoise waves kiss golden sand. Luxury resorts that redefine elegance. Traditional venues steeped in centuries of culture.

Why Couples are Obsessed with Bali Wedding Locations

Here’s the thing about Bali that gets me every time. The sunsets are absolutely breathtaking. Not just pretty, but the kind that make you stop mid-conversation and stare.

The value here is incredible too. You’ll get so much more for your budget compared to wedding destinations back home. But honestly, the real magic isn’t in the savings.

It’s the people. The Balinese have this genuine warmth that transforms your wedding day into something extraordinary. I’ve watched them treat every couple like family. They’ll make your celebration feel like the most important event happening on the entire island.

Want to exchange vows on an active volcano? No problem. Dreaming of a secret waterfall ceremony? They’ve got several. Beach wedding with dramatic cliffs? Absolutely.

The Best Wedding Locations in Bali (That I’d Actually Recommend)

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces – Worth the Drive

Location: Tabanan Regency, Bali

The Jatiluwih This spot requires about an hour and a half drive from Ubud. Most couples grumble about the journey until they arrive.

Then they see it.

The rice terraces stretch endlessly across rolling hills like green silk draped over mountains. It’s one of those places that photos simply can’t capture properly. You have to experience it.

Sunrise ceremonies here are pure magic. The golden light dancing across those emerald terraces will take your breath away. Fair warning though, you’ll need to wake up around 4 AM to beat the crowds.

Tourist buses start arriving by 9 AM, so timing matters. The dry season gives you the best conditions and clearest views.

Ubud – The Heart of Bali’s Natural Beauty

Location: Gianyar Regency, Bali

Ubud draws couples for good reason. This cultural hub sits surrounded by lush tropical forests and stunning landscapes that feel almost otherworldly.

The art scene here adds something special to your celebration. Traditional galleries and local craftsmen create an authentic Balinese atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else.

If you’re dreaming of a natural elopement surrounded by wildlife and exotic plants, Ubud delivers perfectly. The energy here feels both peaceful and inspiring.

Magical sunrise at the rice terraces

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Location: Lake Beratan, Baturiti, Tabanan Regency

This floating temple creates some of the most iconic wedding photos in all of Bali. The traditional Balinese architecture reflected in Lake Beratan looks absolutely stunning at any time of day.

Here’s what you need to know though. This is an active temple with strict requirements. You’ll need special permits, and the dress code is non-negotiable.

The morning fog rolling across the lake creates an ethereal backdrop that’s worth every restriction. Just be prepared for crowds and very specific ceremony guidelines.

Adventurous Elopements in Bali for Thrill-Seeking Couples

Mount Batur with clouds and sunset

Mount Batur – Above the Clouds

Location: Kintamani, Bangli Regency

Mount Batur is definitely not for everyone. You’re hiking up an active volcano at 3 AM to catch sunrise. But honestly? If you can handle the adventure, the payoff is incredible.

You’ll stand above the clouds watching the sun illuminate the entire island. The black volcanic rocks and sand create this dramatic, otherworldly setting for your portraits.

It gets surprisingly cold up there. Way colder than you’d expect in tropical Bali. But couples who choose Mount Batur always tell me it was the most unforgettable experience of their lives.

The hiking opportunities and gorgeous lake add even more adventure to your wedding experience.

NungNung Waterfall – Hidden Gem

Location: Plage Petang, Nungnung, Badung Regency

NungNung Waterfall remains relatively unknown, which works in your favor. You’ll have incredible privacy for your ceremony.

The downside? It requires a proper hike to reach. I always recommend bringing good shoes and maybe hiring a porter for your wedding dress. Early morning visits give you the best lighting and fewer people.

Once you see NungNung in person, you’ll understand why the effort is completely worth it. The secluded setting feels like your own private paradise.

Tibumana Waterfall – The Accessible Alternative

Location: Bangli Regency, near Ubud

If NungNung sounds too challenging, Tibumana offers easier access with equally beautiful results. The short walk takes you through gorgeous rice fields and palm trees.

This location gives you that secluded Bali feeling while showing you authentic daily life on the island. There’s even a beautiful temple nearby that’s worth exploring.

Kelingking Beach

Kelingking Beach might be one of the most spectacular spots in all of Bali. The clifftop overlooks offer breathtaking views of blue water and lush greenery.

Getting down to the actual beach can be quite challenging with limited safety features. I usually recommend the overlook locations for ceremonies. The views are absolutely stunning either way.

Whether you’re drawn to full on Bali weddings or want to elope in Bali, we’ve got you covered either way!

Luxury Accommodations for Your Bali Elopement

One thing I absolutely love about Bali is the incredible value in accommodations. You can stay at world-class villas and resorts for rates that would shock you back home.

Conrad Bali Resort
Address: Jalan Pratama 168, Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua 80363, Bali

This five-star luxury resort on Nusa Dua’s coast defines beachfront elegance. Private dining, floating meals, and romantic settings create the perfect wedding atmosphere. They even offer on-site wedding packages if you want to keep everything in one location.

Private Villa Options

The luxury villa scene here is incredible. You’ll find stunning properties with private pools, Balinese architectural details, and lush tropical gardens. Many sit right on the beach or overlook dramatic rice terraces.

These villas offer complete privacy for intimate celebrations while keeping you close to Bali’s most beautiful attractions.

Loft Style Villa with Pool and Ricefield View:: This beautiful Airbnb brings the comfort of New York City to Bali. The architecture screams city chic while you enjoy views of Bali’s rice fields. It’s one of my all-time-favorite Airbnbs in Bali!

Cozy Boutique Villa (Airbnb): Two words: tropical luxury.  Cozy Boutique Villa is a stunning home filled with Balinese details, a beautiful outdoor space, lush greenery, and a private pool. If you want some truly dreamy portraits before your elopement, this Airbnb is for you!

Private Villas of Bali (Hotel): Private Villas of Bali is a luxury villa hotel located right on the beach in the southern part of Bali. Being near the beach means you’ve got views for days. Located in Gapura Vista, a beautiful cliff top luxury residential area, it’s quiet, romantic, and private – perfect for a romantic getaway!

Villa DelMar Bali: I absolutely love this luxury home right off the beach in Bali. This villa is close to so many incredible tourist locations, restaurants, and even the Sacred Monkey Sanctuary! It’s perfect – complete with large spaces to relax, a pool, and amenities.

Professional Photography Tips for Bali Weddings

After years of photographing weddings across Bali, I can tell you that location knowledge makes all the difference.

The light here changes incredibly fast. Golden hour might last twenty minutes. Blue hour disappears even quicker. You need someone who understands how to work efficiently in these conditions.

Each location presents unique challenges too. Waterfall ceremonies mean protecting equipment from mist. Beach weddings require planning for salt spray. Temple ceremonies have strict rules about photographer positioning.

Working with a photographer who knows these locations inside and out ensures you capture every perfect moment.

Making Your Bali Wedding Dreams a Reality

Choosing your wedding locations Bali should reflect what truly matters to you, not just what looks good on social media.

Want drama and adventure? Mount Batur or Kelingking Beach deliver unforgettable experiences.

Prefer elegance and ease? Luxury resorts and private villas offer refined celebration options.

Love nature but want to avoid crowds? Hidden waterfalls provide intimate, secluded settings.

The most important decision you’ll make is working with professionals who understand these locations completely.

At Thin Spaces, we’ve documented countless Bali weddings. We know exactly when each spot has the best light, how to avoid crowds, and what local requirements you’ll need to navigate.

Your Bali wedding deserves documentation that captures both the incredible scenery and your genuine emotions. Let’s chat about making your elopement dreams happen. Click here to chat with a real Bali Wedding Photographer.
